Maui features resorts for all styles and budgets of travel, whether you're looking for an adults-only resort to celebrate your honeymoon or a kid-focused property for a multigenerational family vacation. Visitors will find that most of the resorts are clustered around the communities of Kaanapali, on the island's West Coast, and Wailea in South Maui.
Wailea is a swank community with multiple resorts and dining options, along with five golden beaches and a golf course set on 1,500 beautifully landscaped acres. There are a few more luxury resorts in ritzy Kapalua in northwest Maui, like the beautiful Montage Kapalua Bay.
Maui is a year-round vacation destination but tourism really spikes in the summer months, around the Christmas holidays, and into the cold North American winters, making June through August and December through February some of the most expensive times to visit. To save on lodging visit in the spring or fall, when the weather is still nice but the crowds are less, and you can get better deals on hotels and resorts.

1. Hotel Wailea
In Wailea, the adults-only Hotel Wailea has a zen Japanese vibe, with bamboo stands, koi ponds, waterfalls, and mango trees and is perfect for a kids-free vacation or honeymoon.
The 72 suites are scattered around the property in groups of four and all offer separate sleeping and living areas with kitchenettes.
The decor features polished wood floors and marine-themed art on neutral hued walls. The stone-tiled bathrooms here are particularly impressive, with deep soaking tubs and giant rain showers.
On-site amenities include a pool with private cabanas. There is also a romantic restaurant that serves up fresh, local, and organic fare with produce from farms and orchards in Maui, including one located on the hotel grounds. The menu is very much farm-to-table and can change daily based upon what is available.

2. Montage Kapalua Bay
In ritzy Kapalua, the Montage Kapalua Bay is one of the top luxury resorts in Maui. It sits on 24 acres and features panoramic ocean vistas and just 56 suites that range in size from one to four bedrooms. Each is stylish and modern but also great for families, as they come with full kitchens and in-room laundry facilities, along with furnished balconies and separate living and sleeping areas.
Beyond the rooms is a swimming pool with cabanas, a day spa with many treatment choices, and a few different dining options.
Check out Cane & Canoe for island flavors. The restaurant focuses on locally sourced produce and high-quality meats to create innovative Hawaiian dishes.
For something more casual head to The Hideaway, which is the more laid-back dinner venue on-site. The menu offers everything from a "build your own" poke bowl to a wagyu cheddar burger. There is also live music.

3. Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea
This luxury resort in Wailea features a museum-worthy art collection and old-world elegance in its white columns, coffered ceilings, and open-air common spaces with rattan chairs and ceiling fans.
The 380 rooms and suites are quite spacious and most feature private balconies bedecked with chaise lounges and tables. The marble bathrooms have giant soaking tubs, La Bottega toiletries, and separate standing showers.
The best rooms and suites have ocean views, but some of the least expensive offer only views of the parking lodge, so know what you are booking. Beyond the rooms are three on-site restaurants, including the only edition of Wolfgang Puck's Spago in Hawaii. There is also a pool and a large spa.

4. The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua
One of the most luxurious properties on Maui, The Ritz-Carlton is just a few minutes' walk from Kapalua Bay beach and set on beautifully manicured grounds. The Aston at The Whaler is a relaxed Kaanapali beachfront property set in two towers next to the Whalers Village shopping mall and across from the Kaanapali Golf Course. Away from the rooms, amenities include a pool overlooking the sea, a gym, sauna, and tennis courts. All come with private, furnished terraces with barbecue grills, modern kitchens, and tropical island decor.

8. Kaanapali Alii
Right on the water facing Kaanapali Beach, this resort has one- and two-bedroom condos that are spacious and come with great views. Each is privately owned, so they are done up in varying styles, but all feature full kitchens, separate living and dining rooms, and two bathrooms.
They also boast private furnished lanai patios and washer/dryers. For resort amenities, you'll discover multiple swimming pools with cabanas, a gym, yoga studio, spa, and barbecue grills, but there are no on-site dining options.

9. Wailea Beach Resort - Marriott, Maui
The Wailea Beach Resort is not directly on the sand, but it's just a few minutes' walk from Wailea Beach. And while it is set back, it does face the ocean and offers stunning views from its 547 rooms and suites. These are set in low-rise buildings spread across the lushly landscaped property. All offer comfortable beds, Nespresso machines, and flat-screen TVs, along with contemporary decor and private patios or balconies.
On-site resort amenities include four pools, as well as one for adults only, and another with waterslides for the kids, a family game room with arcade games, and the brand's signature Mandara Spa. There are also a number of dining options.

10. Andaz Maui at Wailea
The Andaz Maui is a trendy, design-focused luxury hotel on Mokapu Beach. It caters mostly to couples, although kids are welcome. The rooms are hip, with minimalist decor and concept bathrooms that are constructed in the middle of the sleeping space.
Also on the property is a fantastic infinity pool, built in tiers with ocean views, and a luxe spa with its own tranquility pool. There are also multiple dining options, including a good Japanese restaurant.

11. Travaasa Hana
If you just want to escape modern life, then the Travaasa Hana is a solid pick. It is located on Maui's eastern shore - so the sunrises are fantastic - and with the exception of the family suites, rooms have no TVs, radios, or clocks, although there is Wi-Fi.
Choose from junior suites, the aforementioned family suites, or cottages with ocean views, some of which have private hot tubs. The all-inclusive plan here covers meals and spa treatments, and on-site amenities to keep you distracted include a lava rock Jacuzzi and ukulele and lei-making classes, among other activities.

12. The Westin Nanea Ocean Villas
Set on 16 acres on Kaanapali Beach, The Westin Nanea Ocean Villas just opened and offers spacious, modern one-, two-, and three-bedroom villas that all come with the Westin's branded, super-comfy Heavenly Beds, full kitchens, separate living and dining space, and large bathrooms with soaking tubs.
There are also high-end amenities, like Bose sound systems and refrigerators with icemakers, throughout. Other resort amenities include a restaurant serving locally sourced produce, a lagoon-style swimming pool with oceanfront cabanas, and a kids' pool.

13. Aston Mahana at Kaanapali
The 215 individually owned condos at the Aston Mahana are another option in Kaanapali, especially if other places are booked. Located on Honokowai Point, the family friendly property features condos of varying sizes, from studios to two-bedrooms.
All have full kitchens and ocean views, and some have floor-to-ceiling windows, but the quality of decor in each condo varies as they each have different owners. There is also no on-site restaurant. That said, there is direct beach access, a small swimming pool, hot tub, and barbecue grills.

14. Kā'anapali Beach Hotel
The recent recipient of a multimillion-dollar overhaul, the Kā'anapali Beach Hotel sits on the beach by the same moniker. The renovation project included redesigning two wings and upgrading the rooms into modern affairs featuring a mix of Western and traditional Hawaiian decor. Rooms also come with fridges and furnished balconies. Many have direct ocean views from floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors.
There is also a new restaurant right on the oceanfront called Haihu. It serves creative island fare and features a large al fresco dining space. The 3-star hotel is located just a short walk from many other dining options, as well as lots of shops and recreational activities.
The hotel is family friendly, and there are daily Hawaiian cultural activities on offer. Babysitting can also be arranged.
Other on-site amenities include a swimming pool with sun-loungers and umbrellas. If you are traveling with a dog, the hotel is pet friendly.

Napili Kai Beach Resort is located on quiet Napili Bay, which is known for its excellent snorkeling and one of the best beaches on Maui. It is set in a collection of low-rise buildings (none is more than two stories) spread out over 10 beachfront acres and has a relaxed, traditional Hawaiian style to it.
The 163 rooms, studios, and suites all feature some type of ocean view, along with island decor. Away from the rooms, on-site amenities include four swimming pools, two hot tubs, and a restaurant right on the beach. It is also located adjacent to a golf course.
