A short distance to the south, near the village of Kalabak Köyü, are the remains of the earlier Adramittium (Adramittium Thebe). Edremit's Seljuk Kursunlu Cami dates from around 1231 and, together with its türbe (1241), was built by Yusuf Sinan. In the early 14th century there was a Genoese fortress in the town. The Esnef Rumi Camii was built during the Ottoman period. Today Edremit-Akçay is a popular seaside resort. As well as archeological finds the town museum has a splendid collection of weapons.
