I first started writing about Mexico in 2009 and Cancun was the very first place I visited when I began my professional (and personal) adventures in the country. One of the original tourist destinations in Mexico, the dreamy tropical escape is known for its picture-perfect beaches, crystal-clear water, and, of course, its fabulous all-inclusive resorts.
Cancun is home to some of the very best resorts in Mexico, and it's easy to see why the government created Cancun as a tourist paradise back in the 1970s. Visitors come here to lounge on the miles of sun-bleached, white-sand beaches, swim in the deliciously warm and calm Caribbean Sea, snorkel along the Mesoamerican reef, and enjoy local attractions as well as the thoroughly laid-back vibe.
Whether you're looking for a romantic, adults-only retreat boasting a spa and gourmet restaurants or a kid-friendly haven filled with entertaining programs and waterfront activities, you'll find it, and so much more, at the best resorts in Cancun.
The best part? Many of these resorts feature all-inclusive programs, which means you won't have to worry about unexpected costs cropping up at the end of your stay.
No matter what type of accommodation you're looking for, you'll find it on our list of the best resorts in Cancun.
1. Waldorf Astoria Cancun
Accommodation: Waldorf Astoria Cancun
One of the newest hotels to open in Cancun, the Waldorf Astoria Cancun brings its grandeur to the fluffy Caribbean beaches of Mexico. I was lucky enough to visit this resort in 2023 shortly after it opened and was beyond impressed by its dressed-down elegance, highlighted in its 173 rooms and suites, chic pool deck, glamorous spa, and opulent lobby. It's easy to see why I've ranked this as the best hotel in Cancun.
There is a lot to love about the rooms at Waldorf Astoria Cancun. I recommend booking one of the Swim Up rooms or the Ocean Front Swim Up Master Corner Suite. These palatial suites feature 1,680 square feet of space and a massive terrace with a private swim-up pool.
Tip: If you book three nights or longer, roundtrip transportation is included to and from the Cancun airport, as well as daily coffee and pastries, a 30-minute spa treatment for each adult per stay, and daily evening hors d'oeuvres.
Do not leave Waldorf Astoria Cancun without a dinner reservation at Malpeque. This oceanfront fine dining restaurant has a menu themed around all things fire. Each dish has an element of char, smoke, or flame. The poolside restaurant is also fantastic. I recommend the fish tacos and the ceviche.
Perhaps my favorite part of the Waldorf Astoria Cancun was my spa treatment. The spa is absolutely stunning, with 21 cabins, a tranquility pool, a relaxation lounge, and long hallways shrouded in bamboo. I booked the 100-minute Melipona Honey Ritual, which uses honey from a native bee species that is believed to have medicinal properties. The treatment includes an exfoliation with honey, a honey wrap, and a full body massage and face mask.

2. Le Blanc Spa Resort Cancun
Accommodation: Le Blanc Spa Resort Cancun
A renovation in 2018 secured Le Blanc Spa Resort Cancun's position as one of the best all-inclusive resorts in Cancun. The most luxurious of its competitors on this Mayan stretch of soft, sandy shore, this adults-only retreat ensures its guests an incredibly pampered and romantic stay.
Spacious, oceanfront suites offer floor-to-ceiling windows that highlight the resort's best feature: a sparkling beachfront locale. Rooms feature plush furnishings and a minimalist beach chic décor, as well as deep soaking tubs with a view.
When you're ready to emerge from your luxe room, head to one of the multiple on-site restaurants for an enjoyable bite to eat. Italian Bella is quite popular (and elegant) while Lumiere boasts a dress code (no shorts or sleeveless shirts for men) and delectable fare.
The beach at Le Blanc Spa Resort Cancun is, without a doubt, one of the best beaches in Cancun; use the beach bag provided in your room to transport sunblock, a book, and any other necessities for a few hours spent by the shore.
If "spa" is in the name of the resort, you know it has to be good. In fact, the spa experience is one of the pillars of the Le Blanc brand. Blanc Spa is known for its holistic water ritual hydrotherapy experience. Detox in the sauna and steam room, which includes a facial mask and hair treatment before moving on to the ice room for a quick shock to the body's system.
This is followed by a series of plunge pools and rehydration with warm tea or a cold glass of chlorophyll water, all before beginning one of the many treatments or therapies.

3. Live Aqua Beach Resort Cancun
Accommodation: Live Aqua Beach Resort Cancun
Whenever anyone asks me what my favorite all-inclusive resort in Cancun is, I always say Live Aqua Beach Resort Cancun. It's a resort that hits every note well, from the rooms to the beach, the pool scene, and the restaurants, I am consistently impressed with everything this beach resort in Cancun has to offer.
You can't beat the location of the Live Aqua Beach Resort Cancun. It's set across the street from a high-end shopping center and within walking distance of Cancun's bustling nightlife. You'll have plenty of things to do when you aren't lounging by the multiple on-site pools or splashing in the waves at the large and lovely, Blue Flag award-winning beach.
Guests can expect high-end finishings and contemporary design in each of the 371 sleek guest rooms, revamped in 2019. Choose the perfect scent for your mood from the in-room aromatherapy menu—Relax, Aqua, Tranquility, Romance, or Energy. Too tired to open the curtains to unveil the spectacular ocean view? No worries: a mere push of a button can do that for you as you remain comfortably tucked under the soft covers.
Book a room in the Aqua Club for an even more opulent experience. You'll have access to a personal butler to assist your every need throughout your stay, a dedicated lounge, and preferred pool and beach Bali Bed reservations. You can enjoy a private a la carte breakfast at the lounge and Azur restaurant, as well as premium snacks and beverages.
Since this adults-only resort is also all-inclusive, your meals and drinks are included at the resort's many restaurants, cafés, and lounges. Sample delicious fare ranging from fresh seafood to Mexican dishes to Italian pasta. Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options are also available.
My personal favorite is the sushi counter that opens every afternoon. This is a great place to stop for appetizers before dinner. I also love the beachfront Sea Corner restaurant, which serves a menu of casual tacos and fresh ceviche, with picture-perfect ocean views.
Address: Blvd. Kukulcan Km 12.5, Zona Hotelera, 77500 Cancún, Q.R., Mexico
4. Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Cancun
Accommodation: Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Cancun
It's easy to see why the Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Cancun is dubbed one of the best beach resorts in Mexico. It is most certainly an icon along the Cancun skyline. And while it has reinvented itself a few times over the years, it continues to be one of the most legendary Cancun resorts — and one of my favorites.
I love this resort because it caters to all types of travelers, from couples to groups of friends and families. A few years ago, the resort switched to a fully all-inclusive model, which I think was the correct move for the resort to remain competitive amid some of the flashier, newer all-inclusive resorts bursting on the scene.
The resort boasts activities for guests young and old—from magic shows for the little ones to yoga classes, candlelit dinners on the beach, and nightly entertainment.
The resort has 602 all-suite, ocean view rooms, each of which has a private terrace. While all rooms are part of the all-inclusive package, my top tip is to book an Infinite Club Suite because of the upgraded perks. Guests are entitled to the private penthouse lounge, VIP check-in, and an exclusive Infinite Beach Club & Sundeck.
Additional privileges include priority booking at restaurants, one 30-minute wave-runner rental per suite, two hydrotherapy treatments at the spa, complimentary round-trip tickets to Isla Mujeres, and more. My favorite perk is the choice of two personalized resort experiences, which could be dinner at the AAA five-diamond Le Basilio restaurant, a private cabana dinner on the beach, 40 percent off treatments at the Gem Spa for the entire stay, plus a few other good ones.
One of the top reasons to book Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Cancun is because of its massive Gem Spa. Guests are welcomed to the sprawling 40,000-square-foot facility by expansive windows that look out over the beach and the Caribbean Sea. Home to one of the largest hydrotherapy pools in Cancun, this is the ultimate paradise for wellness enthusiasts. Plus, guests can book some special spa perks, like a private romantic dinner for two following a couples' massage.
The resort is constantly upgrading and updating its offerings, which often means new restaurants. One of the newest is the Nah K'aax Asian fusion restaurant. I love this spot for the funky boho chic design and its toes-in-the-sand vibe.
Of course, the very best dining experience is the adults-only Mediterranean restaurant, Le Basilic. This restaurant is not part of the all-inclusive program, but if you book one of the Infinite Club Suites you can have a dinner here included.
Address: Blvd. Kukulcan km. 9.5, Punta Cancun, Zona Hotelera, 77500 Cancún, Q.R., Mexico
Beach and Pool
The pool scene at Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Cancun is really special. Designed with secluded coves and footbridges that lead from one area to the next, it's like stepping into a tropical oasis. The beach here is also one of my favorites in Cancun for the sugary sand and spectacular views out over the Caribbean Sea. On a clear day, you may even be able to make out Isla Mujeres in the distance. Plus, the resort has its own private dock with ferries that shuttle guests back and forth to the island.
5. Hyatt Zilara Cancun
Accommodation: Hyatt Zilara Cancun
This pretty Cancun resort sits on a wide stretch of sugar-white beach in the popular Hotel Zone. It features all the trimmings to ensure a romantic stay: a free-form infinity pool with bridges, beach and pool cabanas, a separate lap pool, hot tubs, a state-of-the-art gym, and a high-end spa.
Hyatt Zilara Cancun had 310 all-inclusive suites, all of which have views of the ocean or pool. The Hyatt Premium Suites are the ones to book, however, especially if you want upgraded perks like swim-up access to the pool.
All meals and drinks are included at the adults-only, all-inclusive Hyatt Zilara Cancun resort, which is basically the grown-up sister of the Hyatt Ziva. That means you won't have to stress about which of the six à-la-carte and gourmet buffet restaurants to choose from. Or, if you'd prefer to luxuriate in your glitzy, marble-floored guest room, you can order your food to be delivered there.
Beach and Pool
Hyatt Zilara Cancun sits on one of the widest stretches of beaches in the Cancun Hotel Zone. This means you can expect plenty of space to sprawl out on the powdery sand or perch up in one of the canopied cabanas. The pools include a beachfront infinity pool and an Olympic-sized lap pool. You'll also find a selection of bubbly hot tubs around the pool deck, as well.
Address: Blvd. Kukulcan, Punta Cancun, Zona Hotelera, 77500 Cancún, Q.R., Mexico
6. NIZUC Resort & Spa
Accommodation: NIZUC Resort & Spa
It's easy to see why the NIZUC Resort & Spa is deemed one of the best resorts in Cancun for Couples. Set amid perfectly manicured gardens within a 29-acre nature preserve and hugging two spotless, private beaches, this stunning resort is a masterpiece. The tasteful modern architecture blends seamlessly with natural elements to create a truly Instagrammable backdrop.
One of the best parts about NIZUC is that it is just 10 minutes from the airport and within a stone's throw of the Hotel Zone, yet it sits on its own private point, giving it an ends-of-the-earth vibe and one that feels far more remote than it actually is.
The 274 suites and villas offer guests a five-star luxury experience. We're talking private terraces, freestanding soaking tubs, panoramic views, and outdoor showers. Book the NIZUC Villa if you're hoping to really live it up. Boasting over 2,600 square feet of inside space and another 2,700 square feet outside (including an infinity pool and tropical garden), this elegant living space is so glorious, that you won't want to leave.
The lavish spa at NIZUC is much more than a place for pampering. It's an entire wellness experience, including a brand-new MedSpa, which allows visitors to receive non-surgical medical esthetic procedures. The spa menu also includes ESPA therapies that have been influenced by Mayan rituals. Ask about the ESPA Facials, as well, which use SkinVision technology to diagnose skin conditions that may not be visible to the naked eye.
Not only is the resort visually stunning, but its restaurants are equally tantalizing for the senses. NI is one of my favorite restaurants at NIZUC, with a menu of Peruvian-style ceviches, fresh seafood, and grilled meats. Guests also love Indochine for its rich and flavorful Asian fusion, from spicy Indonesian soups to sushi.
Address: Blvd. Kukulcan, Punta Nizuc - Cancún 03-Km 21.26, 77500 Cancún, Q.R., Mexico
7. Excellence Playa Mujeres
Accommodation: Excellence Playa Mujeres
The elegant Excellence Playa Mujeres is a romantic haven for couples looking for an amorous, laid-back vacation enhanced with all the high-end amenities you'd find at a top luxury resort. Seven pools and lazy rivers wind their way around this exclusive property, which is fronted by one of the most pristine, sandy beaches you'll find on the Mayan Riviera.
One of the top draws to the Excellence Playa Mujeres is that all of the rooms are suites. Each one has in-room Jacuzzis, private terraces, and rainfall showers in the stunning bathrooms. I recommend splurging on the Excellence Club Suites, which feature additional perks like private check-in, daily fresh fruit, and access to two private pools and a private beach area. Not surprisingly, this stellar property has been deemed one of the best all-inclusive, adults-only resorts in the world.
All meals and drinks are included at 13 restaurants, as well as a food truck and beach snack grill. Also complimentary are fitness classes (including yoga, aerobics, and dancing lessons), fat bikes, and nightly entertainment.
One of the standout features at Excellence Playa Mujeres is its Miilé Spa, with its impressive hydrotherapy area, 15 indoor treatment rooms, and three rooms dedicated to facials. The wellness facilities also include a fitness center and a salon.
Pool and Beach
Get ready to be fully wowed by the beach and pool area at Excellence. The resort has an impressive seven pools, including three that are exclusive to the Excellence Club. The pool area also has five whirlpools. The beach here is one of the most beautiful in the area, with a wide stretch of soft, white sand. In fact, you'll be hard-pressed to find a beach more beautiful than the one at Excellence Playa Mujeres.
Address: Prolongación Bonampak S/N Mz. 1 Lt.10 Sm. 3 Condominio Playa Mujeres Sm. 3 Condominio Playa Mujeres, 77400 Q.R., Mexico
8. Kempinski Hotel Cancun
Accommodation: Kempinski Hotel Cancun
If Kempinski Hotel Cancun looks familiar to Cancun regulars, that's because you may formerly know it as the Ritz-Carlton Cancun. The property changed flags but is still thriving as one of the best resorts in Cancun. Back when it was a Ritz-Carlton, it was the very first hotel I ever stayed at in Cancun so it was really wonderful to be able to visit in 2023 and see it as a Kempinski.
You're pretty much assured a five-star luxury experience when you stay at a Kempinski property. They are known for their classic European style and Grande Dame status. The Kempinski Hotel Cancun is no exception, and it happens to be the very first Kempinski in Mexico.
Kempinski Hotel Cancun's rooms are classically elegant, steering away from the more "trendy" designs of beach resorts these days. Instead, you'll find plush carpeting, stately furniture, and a muted gray color palette. Bathrooms are clad in marble with Ferragamo amenities.
Club Rooms have added amenities like private check-in and exclusive access to The Club Lounge. I recommend splurging for one of the oceanfront suites that have its own plunge pool overlooking the Caribbean Sea.
Pool and Beach
Kempinski Hotel Cancun is blessed with an address on a sugary stretch of one of the best beaches in Cancun. In fact, the area just next to the hotel is a beloved, under-the-radar local beach spot.
On the sand directly in front of the hotel is a series of cabanas and chaise lounges. The pool deck features two pools, which overlook the ocean, as well. In between the two pools is the hotel's al fresco Caribe Bar & Grill.
The restaurants at Kempinski Hotel Cancun are truly exquisite. Everyone should make a reservation at the white-glove Fantino restaurant. Boating 5-Diamond status, the menu here is Mediterranean cuisine served in the most elegant dining room. Think chandeliers, frescoes, and live piano music.
I also loved Caribe Bar & Grill for its casual poolside cuisine. The fish tacos in particular were excellent. Be sure to also have a relaxing dinner in the ocean-view D-Lounge on the lobby level. They serve an assortment of sushi rolls, sashimi, burgers, and quesadillas.
Address: Rtno. del Rey 36, Zona Hotelera, 77500 Cancún, Q.R.
9. Secrets The Vine Cancun
Accommodation: Secrets The Vine Cancun
This impressive retreat is an all-inclusive, adults-only haven enticing its guests to unwind in the lap of luxury. Watch the sun rise or set over the cerulean water of the Caribbean Sea or Laguna Nichupte, your feet comfortably sunk into the softest of sand. This splendid resort is set in the heart of the Hotel Zone, near the best tourist attractions in Cancun.
The rooms here are large, chic, and contemporary, with private balconies, teak furnishings, and Italian porcelain floors. If you're hoping for an even more lavish stay, upgrade to the Preferred Club, which offers access to an exclusive lounge, a dedicated concierge, and an even more sumptuous suite. Preferred guests also gain access to a special infinity pool.
Pools and Beach
Guests of Secrets the Vine will be spoiled for choice when it comes to water features. The resort has two infinity and terrace swimming pools, as well as an Oceanview hot tub. Don't forget about that exclusive Preferred Club-only swimming pool. Plus, the resort sits on a pristine stretch of white sand beach, complete with cabanas and lounge chairs.
Dining runs the spectrum here, as well, featuring everything from toes-in-the-sand casual fare to elegant gourmet cuisine. The resort has five a la carte restaurants, a buffet restaurant, a grill, and a cafe.
Bluewater Grill is one of the resort's most popular restaurants, featuring a menu of grilled meats, seafood, and steak. Guests also love Dragons for their eclectic and innovative Asian fusion.
A resort designed exclusively for adults, guests at Secrets the Vine can choose their own adventure, whether that's live music, theme nights, gala shows, beach volleyball, or the elegant Spa by Pevonia.
Speaking of the spa, this is a must for any wellness gurus. Book a couples massage or an aromatherapy salt glow, among other lavish treatments like hot stone massage, facials, or body wraps.

10. Moon Palace Cancun - The Grand
Accommodation: Moon Palace The Grand - Cancun
The sprawling Moon Palace resort mega complex operates as a few hotels within one. The Grand is by far the most luxurious option. The family-friendly, all-inclusive resort is massive, with more than 1,000 rooms, nine pools, including a water park, five restaurants, and access to the facilities at the other resorts on the property. To sum up, this is one of those all-inclusive resorts that you could visit many times over and still never experience it all.
It's not often that you'll find a large in-room whirlpool tub mere steps from your comfy hotel bed. As you soak in this sumptuous tub, gazing through the giant windows to the splendid ocean view, you'll understand why this was dubbed one of the best resorts in Mexico.
Add on the exceptional amenities incorporated in your all-inclusive rate, and you'll find it difficult to leave. All meals, drinks, snacks, and non-motorized water sports are free for your use, as is the 27-hole, Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course.
When it comes time to rest your sun-drenched heads, relax in a grand family suite. These consist of two deluxe, connected rooms, one with a king bed and another with two doubles. Both have deep soaking tubs and balconies. The mini-bar includes kid faves like chocolate milkshakes and juice, and you'll find tyke-sized bathrobes and slippers as well.
Even if you don't relish being pampered at the Awe Spa, it's worth a visit just to enjoy a fresh drink or healthy snack at the juice bar. Speaking of food, there are so many restaurants on-site, you likely won't have a chance to try them all.
This is one of the most family-friendly resorts in Mexico. Little guests of Moon Palace The Grand – Cancun are in for a vacation they'll dream of for years to come. A water park; free bikes to explore the resort; games and arcade room; and playrooms that include bumper cars, mini golf, and a bowling alley will ensure they'll never say, "I'm bored."
Address: Cancun - Chetumal KM 36.5, Riviera Maya, 77500 Cancún, Q.R.
11. Paradisus Cancun
Accommodation: Paradisus® Cancun
It's easy to think you're among Mayan Ruins, or perhaps an Egyptian desert, when you first spy the five massive, glass-topped pyramids of the Paradisus Cancun. At this luxury all-inclusive resort, set between the Caribbean Sea and Nichupté Lagoon, there's no lack of beautiful scenery.
The luxe rooms are bright and colorful, highlighted with vibrant yellow, green, and teal hues that complement the sunset or sunrise viewed from your furnished balcony. Whether you have an ocean view or a lagoon vista, you can't go wrong.
Upgrade to The Reserve for even more luxurious accommodations, butler services, and access to private areas of the hotel.
Pools and Entertainment
The main, free-form pool at this all-inclusive, family-friendly resort is incredible. It is perfectly situated beside the ocean and ringed with tall palms, comfy sun loungers, and a tiki hut. If that's not to your liking, there are three other pools to explore. There's also a nine-hole, par-three executive golf course and a sandy beach. Plus, there are 10 on-site restaurants, a fitness center, and a spa.
Craving some quiet? No problem. Paradisus Cancun has an adults-only section, which is known as the Royal Service, and includes a dedicated restaurant.

Another all-inclusive resort tops our list of the best resorts in Cancun, and for good reason. Set along a glorious stretch of golden sand and highlighted by gorgeous oceanfront pools (one of which contains a water park for kids), the luxury Hilton Cancun offers a spectacular respite for couples and families.
