15 Best Hotels in Tampa

Hotels in Tampa come in all shapes and sizes. Whether you are looking for a luxury beachfront resort to celebrate a romantic anniversary or a suite near Busch Gardens big enough to accommodate the family, there is a hotel in this Gulf Coast metropolis for you. And while the Tampa Bay metro area is sprawling, most attractions and lodging choices are focused in a few central areas.

The downtown is one area. Here, you'll find a range of accommodation, from cheap motels to 4-star hotels, as well as museums, restaurants, entertainment venues, and the Tampa Riverwalk. More hotels are found in the culturally rich, historic areas of Ybor City and Hyde Park North, which also host excellent dining options.

The neighborhood near Raymond James Stadium in northwest Tampa, where the Buccaneers play NFL football, is also home to some excellent luxury hotels. This area is also close to the airport, should you need to catch an early flight out.

Heading north of downtown, you'll find more hotels around Busch Gardens, which is an African-themed amusement park revered by families for its mix of safari adventures and roller coasters. Here are our favorite hotels in the Tampa Bay area for all budgets:

Best Luxury Hotels in Tampa

1. Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay

It is rare to find a city where one of the top hotels is also right near the airport, but Tampa Bay is one of those metro areas. Sitting on a 35-acre nature reserve, the waterfront Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay is one of the best luxury hotels in town and is also close to the airport and near Raymond James Stadium.

The 4-star, four-diamond property is a unique destination retreat, with a mix of contemporary and comfortable rooms and swanky private casitas. We like the latter for romantic getaways, as they are more intimate and set around mangrove trees.

For amenities, you'll find a pair of swimming pools; tennis courts; a 24-hour gym; a nature trail; and best of all, an artificial beach with lounge chairs, a fire pit, and ping-pong tables. Meals are also a breeze thanks to three on-site restaurants—try Oystercatchers for seafood at a table facing the bay.

2. Epicurean Hotel, Autograph Collection

If you're looking for a luxe foodie experience in a cool neighborhood, try the Epicurean Hotel in historic Hyde Park North. The chef, Chad Johnson, at house restaurant Elevage, is a James Beard Award semifinalist. He cooks up a global menu that is creative and delicious.

Rooms and suites at this boutique hotel are also posh and come with comfy beds and L'Occitane toiletries in the bathrooms. Other top amenities include an on-site patisserie for an afternoon treat, a fabulous on-site spa with a unique treatment selection, and a rooftop area with downtown Tampa and bay views that is perfect for a romantic sunset.

In a building that dates back to the 1920s gilded era, the hotel has maintained its original grandeur over the last 90-plus years and is one of the few hotels in Tampa Bay to be on the National Register of Historic Places.

The spacious and opulent rooms here retain traditional Beaux Arts style, with gold overlay and antique wood furniture. The restaurant also features is original 1926 ceiling and serves a delicious Mediterranean menu.

The interior design at Le Meridien Tampa is the downtown hotel's best attribute. Inside a onetime federal courthouse, the location is ideal for accessing many of Tampa Bay's top attractions—once you get beyond the immediate neighborhood, that is, which can feel slightly gritty.

Many of the original courthouse details have been kept in the transformation to a hotel, including a sign that notates the judge's chambers, as well as marble columns and historic light fixtures. Rooms and suites have a more modern look about them and are clean and very comfy. There is also a French restaurant on-site that serves fresh seafood selections.
