Kalundborg - Church of Our Lady

(Local Name: Vor Frue Kirke) Kalundborg's landmark is the five-towered Church of Our Lady (Vor Frue Kirke) on the castle mound in Adelgade, which was built about 1170. The walls stand on a granite base and the plan of the church is in the form of a Greek cross with four arms of equal length. It has five towers - an octagonal one on each arm of the cross and a massive square one (41m/135ft high) in the center. The towers are surmounted by pointed spires and four of them have names - St Gertrude, St Catherine, St Anne and St Magdalene.

Inside, the pilasters and sunken semi-circular columns together with the lines of the window-arches on the outside suggest the work of a master builder from Lombardy. Note the
