Aachen Cathedral Dom

The Cathedral consists of a central octagon built about 800 as Charlemagne's palace church and the Gothic choir, completed in 1414. Under the dome is a candelabrum presented by Frederick I Barbarossa; in the gallery is Charlemagne's marble throne; and in the choir is the golden reliquary containing his remains. The Cathedral's Treasury contains many precious things.
The windows in the cloister are excellent examples of post-war German design.
