Dijon - Palais des Ducs
The central feature of Dijon's old town is the semicircular colonnaded Place de la Libération, which was built between 1682 and 1701, along with the Ducal Palace, by Jules Hardouin-Mansart, the architect responsible for Versailles. The Baroque Palais des Ducs de Bourgogne incorporates parts of the earlier medieval structure. To the rear of the palace is the 15th century Tour de Philippe le Bon, from the platform of which (reached by climbing 316 steps) there are fine panoramic views.
