Located on Highway 26, about 100 km (62 mi.) east of Quesnel, is Bakerville.
The township of Barkerville, once the center of the Caribou gold-rush, is picturesquely situated surrounded by mountains in the valley of William Creek. It is the oldest remaining historic settlement in British Columbia.
Shortly after Billy Barker hit gold here in
1862 the a gold rush followed and Barkerville was created. At it's peak Barkerville had a population of over 10,000 people, but dwindled around 1917 as gold miners left the area.
