Antwerp - Havenroute

At Lillo there is a choice between driving on to inspect the huge Berendrechtsluis, the world's largest lock, or shortening the tour and turning around and following the Havenroute south again towards Antwerp, via the Frans Tijsmanstunnel beneath the Kanaaldok and then along the Noorderlaan.

On the way the vast General Motors plant will be seen at the Churchilldok.

Beyond Churchhilldok on the Havenroute going south is a short detour to the left leading alongside No. 6 Havendok and back, passing the container terminals, the giant grain silos and the UK ferry terminal.

From the Noorderlaan going south after the detour to No. 6 Havendok, the city center can be reached by continuing along the Noorderlaan and across the Albertkanaal or more circuitously, via the Oosterweel Steenweg between Albertdok and Leopolddok, thence through No. 5 Havendok and Amerikadok to rejoin the Scheldelaan and so return to the Steen.

Beyond the Royerssluis the Havenroute turns westwards along the Scheldelaan, following the river as it makes its way past an apparently endless series of oil refineries.
