Boyle Abbey

On the north side of the town of Boyle stand the ruins of Boyle Abbey (National Monument), a Cistercian house founded from Mellifont in 1161. Of the cruciform church, now roofless, there survive in a good state of preservation the nave, choir and transepts (beautiful capitals carved with human figures, animals and foliage); of the conventual buildings the guest house and kitchen.
