Danube Valley

A very different pattern is presented by the second of the province's main regions, the Danube valley. The river, already mighty and navigable when it enters Upper Austria from Bavaria, flows through the province for a distance of some 155km/95mi. Between Passau and Linz it is constricted within a narrow valley, which opens out beyond Linz; the river then continues through the densely populated Strudengau to the boundary of Lower Austria.
