Mount Pleasant - Boone Hall Plantation

8 mi. north-east of Charleston on U.S. 17 a signpost points to Boone Hall Plantation, one of the finest plantations in the southern states, originally established by Major Boone in 1681. During the 18th and 19th centuries cotton was grown on the plantation, which then switched to pecan nuts. The mansion (restored), with its gardens and its magnificent half-mile avenue of oaks, has been a favorite setting for film and television producers. A reminder of the slaves who made this splendor possible is provided by nine 18th c. brick huts, among the few surviving examples of original slave huts in the United States.
