Saltillo Attractions

The Coahuila state capital is Saltillo (1550 m (5087 ft); population: 600,000; fiestas August 8th, Santo Cristo de la Capilla; August 13th, fair) where the lovely Churrigueresque Baroque cathedral of Santiago, gracing the main square, was constructed between 1746 and 1801. Noteworthy too are the 16th c. church of San Esteban (1592) and the picturesque Plaza Alameda. Of special interest are the Bird Museum (Museo de las Aves de Mexico) in the restored Antiguo Colegio de San Juan on the upper Hidalgo, and the original Centro Cultural Vanguardia (Hidalgo 231) as well as the Fernando Soler municipal theatre.

Museo Rubén Herrera
This museum was the home of artist Rubén Herrera and displays his works and was opened in 1971. Rubén Herrera was the founder of the Academy of Painting of Saltillo.
