Klatovy Catacombs
The catacombs are one of biggest attractions in Klatovy, drawing large numbers of visitors. The catacombs were built in the 17th Century by the Jesuits while they were constructing the Church of Immaculate Conception and St Ignatius. Located below the church, the catacombs were designed to hold the bodies of Jesuit priests and also to serve as protection during attacks.

Later on they become the final resting place of nobility and other important persons from Klatovy and the surrounding region. Unlike other catacombs which hold piles of bones these ones have a unique feature. Some of the bodies were dried through a natural process and the mummified remains can still be seen.
