Salvador is the oldest community in Brazil, founded in 1549. It was the primary port in Brazil during the slave trade. Today the town has an historic city center that is well worth exploring. Some of the most important sites in Salvador include the Ingreja do Senhor do Bonfim, the Nossa Senhora do Monte Serrat, the Ordem Terceira do Carmo, and particularly the Pelourinho quarter.
