At the town of
Petronella is the
Carnuntum Archeological Park, the site of the Roman fortress of Cranuntum dating back to 9 A.D. It was sacked in 375. The site has been excavated and is today open to the public as an open-air museum. Still visible are the foundations of houses, the palace ruins, and a large amphitheatre.
