Exploration of Australia between 1770 and 1876 was particularly difficult. While much of the coast was discovered by sea, including such famous explorers as Cook and Flinders, the vast and desolate interior presented many more challenges. Some of the names associated with exploring the interior include Giles, Stuart, and McKinlay.
