This village was famous for its olive oil, yet not one tree remains. Situated midway between the Grand Harbour and Marsaxlokk, it prospered as a market garden through Punic and Roman times to become the main parish in this area.

Parish Church of Ste Catherine
The center of Zejtun village is dominated by the fortress-like parish church, built between 1692-1722. It is a fine example of Maltese Baroque shaped by Roman influences. It is possibly Lorenzo Gafa's finest parish church, with a wide facade, seven bays, single Doric and Ionic pilasters, two perfectly scaled bell towers, side screens and arcades.
Ste Catherine Street
In Ste Catherine's Street are a few nice buildings that are worth a quick look. The Church of the Holy Ghost was built in the early 1700s and is credited to Lorenzo Gafa. At the bottom of the hill is Casa Perellos, once the country home of a grand master.
