There is something so romantic about a train ride. It gives you the ability to actually experience the scenery rather than worrying about traffic while driving a car. You have time to meet the people around you and bond in that almost magical way that strangers do on vacation. Plus, if you pick the right route, it might just take your breath away. If this sounds like heaven, you may want to plan ahead to take the Rocky Mountaineer's First Passage to the West Grand Adventure. This trip gives you two full days on the train during the 10-day journey from Vancouver to Jasper in Canada, one of the friendliest countries in the world. You'll travel the Canadian Rocky Mountains through the cities of Vancouver, Banff, Lake Louise, and Jasper. You'll also get to visit three of Canada's most beautiful national parks: Banff, Yoho, and Jasper.

One reviewer on Tripadvisor says of the journey, "I don't think I have been on a trip like this that was so well organised." Another reviewer who took the journey as an anniversary trip says everything was "exceptional," and added, "Am I pleased that we chose to celebrate on the Rocky Mountaineer? Absolutely, yes!" The journey ranges between $5,199 and $10,148 at the time of this writing, depending on which service tier you pick and any add-ons, like specific tours and other activities. In addition to the train rides, you'll also travel by motor coach.

All about the First Passage to the West Grand Adventure itinerary

When you book, you can choose between SilverLeaf and GoldLeaf service, with GoldLeaf being the higher-priced tier. SilverLeaf has a single-level dome in coach with large glass windows, in-seat dining, beverages, snacks, an outdoor viewing area, and accommodations that have dining on site or nearby. GoldLeaf features a bi-level dome with seating above and gourmet a la carte dining on the lower level plus a culinary team, signature cocktails, an exclusive outdoor viewing platform, and luxury accommodations.

You'll travel from Vancouver, where you have a free day, before heading to Kamloops in British Columbia. From there, you'll ride through the Rockies, over Rogers Pass, and past shimmering glaciers, ending in Banff for an overnight stay and a free day. Next, you'll travel through Yoho National Park, featuring the gorgeous Emerald Lake and the Spiral Tunnels, followed by an overnight stay and a free day in Lake Louise.

Then, you'll travel to Jasper, with a sightseeing tour of both Banff National Park (Canada's first national park) and Jasper National Park (the largest in the Canadian Rockies) along the Icefields Parkway. You'll get to experience the Columbia Icefield and visit the Athabasca Glacier, with lunch at the Icefield Glacier Discovery Centre. After a night in Jasper, there's a half-day sightseeing tour in Jasper National Park. Spend a final night in Jasper before your trip comes to an end. Note that you can also do the trip in reverse order, ending in Vancouver. Finally, while the 2026 trips are sold out, you can visit a number of Canada's national parks for free this summer using the Canada Strong Pass.
