This Colorado Water Park Got A Major Upgrade In 2026 For Family Fun During Summer

Across the United States, 2026 has been a major year for water parks. Park development has caught fire across the country as new, state-of-the-art, family-friendly water parks are being built from scratch or, as is the case in New Orleans, are slated to transform an abandoned theme park into a water park and family entertainment hub. In Colorado, the trend continues at Water World, a 70-acre, family-oriented outdoor water park just north of Denver. Water World is one of the largest water parks in the country and boasts over 50 attractions, including wild wave pools, thrilling speed slides, and tube rides with enough seats for the whole family. And after its most recent update, it offers visitors even more fun.

Water World, which cracked the top five in USA Today's 10Best Awards for the "Best Outdoor Water Park" in 2026, has recently undergone its biggest upgrade in decades. In July, the park opened its 2.5-acre Summit Canyon Area, which showcases Colorado's stunning outdoor scenery and spirit of adventure, as well as new attractions for the whole family. The park added four thrilling slides, an obstacle course and kiddie area for younger ones, and a relaxation pool for adults. In addition to more attractions, the park has also upgraded its concession areas and provides changing rooms and private showers for all visitors.

Water World is located in Federal Heights, about 9 miles north of Downtown Denver. From well-connected Denver International Airport (DEN), it's about half an hour by car and about an hour and a half by public transportation; there's a bus stop in front of the parking area. If you are coming from out of town, the park recommends visitors stay at the Residence Inn Denver North/Westminster, which provides Water World guests with a 20% discount for hotel bookings through the park's website.

Though Water World doesn't have the stunning scenery of nearby Rocky Mountain National Park, your heart may pound as you look down 60 feet from Lookout Tower, the tallest point in the park in the new Summit Canyon. From this point, you've got four options down: Speed down along the 425-foot-long Aspen Falls slide or the 520-foot Columbine Cascade on your own, or grab a buddy (and a tube) and spin down Marmot Mayhem or Runoff Rapids. In July, one frequent visitor interviewed by the Northglenn-Thornton Sentinel stated she thinks the tower "takes Water World to a whole new level," although the park still maintains its family-friendly appeal.

Admission for adults starts at less than $33 if bought online in advance. Moreover, visitors are allowed to bring small coolers and non-alcoholic beverages in cans or plastic bottles and their own lunches. If you're looking to maximize your time on the slides, and not spend it in line, the park features a tube valet service to speed through the lines for multiple slides, including Glacier Run, the Mile High Flyer, and Revolution. Each band costs $90.

As the summer winds down and school comes back into session, Water World has reduced hours during the week, though it keeps Summit Canyon open daily. Other parts of the park are open on weekends until Water World fully closes for the season on September 8. Even though the temperature is dropping outside, there are still places to splash away a chilly fall or winter day indoors. Wisconsin's largest indoor water park resort is slated to finish an $85 million upgrade in October 2026, with major improvements and additions on the way.
