The Largest Indoor Water Park In Wisconsin Is Getting A Major $85M Upgrade For Fall 2026

In the heat of summer, zipping down a waterslide or drifting along on a lazy river at a water park is the perfect way to spend the day. And when the temperatures dip, indoor water parks can stretch out the summer vibes all year long. Fans of water parks have likely heard of Kalahari Resorts. Their multiple locations have won USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Award for "Best Indoor Water Park" each year from 2023 through 2026. However, if you're hitting their Wisconsin location, you're about to have a lot more fun. The Kalahari Resorts in Wisconsin Dells — the largest indoor water park in the state — is getting an $85 million, 75,000-square-foot expansion, opening in October 2026, according to an official Facebook post. This new glass-enclosed area will have a retractable roof and several new features. Kalahari Resorts has an African theme, with Wisconsin's current water park offerings including rides like the Sahara Sidewinder, the Tanzanian Twister, and the Victoria Falls slide. 

One reviewer on Google Maps says of the park in its current form, "It is an ABSOLUTE MUST vacation!! The indoor water park is amazing, there is so much going on there!" Wisconsin Dells is close to several airports. Dane County Regional Airport in Madison is 46 miles from the resort. The larger Austin Straubel International Airport is 137 miles away in Green Bay, and Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport is 123 miles away. In addition to several water parks, Wisconsin has plenty of iconic attractions for tourists, so renting a car is a smart idea.

According to the Kalahari Resorts Wisconsin Dells website, the water park expansion's new features include an adult swim-up bar called The Grotto, the Watering Hole zero-depth pool with tanning ledges, the Lost Lagoon spa whirlpool, and the Adventure Bay activity area. Additionally, there are new slides coming in the fall, including the Wild Wildebeest, the Green Python, and the Cheetah Mat Racers for multiple riders. If that isn't enough, there is also an outdoor water park, open from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and Tom Foolerys Adventure Park with indoor rides and games. 

If you stay at the resort, water park entry is included in your fee, and you can use the park from open until close on the days you check in and out, so you don't have to stop the fun. In addition to rooms and suites, you can stay in one of Kalahari Resort's waterfront villas a few miles away. There are also luxury treehouses and cabins designed with Animal Planet's "Treehouse Masters." You'll find lots of dining options after you work up an appetite at the water park as well, including Daylene's Supper Club, Double Cut Steak House, Sortino's Italian Kitchen, a dessert spot, and more. 

In addition to the new and current offerings at one of the coolest indoor water parks in the U.S., this Kalahari Resorts location features a calming room with soft seating, noise-canceling headphones, and other items to help guests who struggle with sensory overload. Finally, if you choose to fly into Madison, make sure to spend some time checking out the state capital's craft breweries and restaurants before your water park adventure.
