The World's First Giga Dive Roller Coaster Is Opening In Texas In 2026

From the "world's largest belt buckle" to a record-breaking taco-eating competition, Texas has some wild world records. Six more will be added to the record books after the Tormenta Rampaging Run roller coaster opens outside of Dallas at Six Flags Over Texas in the coming weeks. Set in a new Spanish-themed village at Six Flags called Rancho de la Tormenta, the Tormenta Rampaging Run is the world's first "giga dive" roller coaster, dropping roughly 300 feet and flying across nearly 4,200 feet of track at 87 mph. In a press release, Six Flags notes that the ride replicates "the thrill of the running of the bulls," the inspiration for its theme.

According to the official POV video, riders brave enough to take the bull by the horns will make a world record-setting 309-foot climb (making it the world's tallest dive coaster) that stops and overlooks the world's highest beyond-vertical drop. Then, suddenly, the roller coaster descends, literally leaving riders hanging and feeling weightless as they plunge 285 feet at a 95-degree angle. Other engineering feats and world records smashed by the ride include being the world's longest and fastest dive coaster, as well as the highest Immelmann loop at 218 feet. Riders must be between 4 feet and 6.5 feet tall to ride.

Tormenta Rampaging Run was originally scheduled to open on June 26, 2026. However, the coaster's "commissioning and testing process is taking longer than expected," according to Six Flags. At the time of writing, no official opening date has been announced. Other big events this year at Six Flags Over Texas

Like Hersheypark, the largest theme park in Pennsylvania, Six Flags Over Texas is also celebrating a major birthday in 2026, turning 65. Visitors to the park this year can expect extended operational hours (open until 10 p.m. or 11 p.m. on many summer weekends, and 11 p.m. on weekends in October) and new attractions and improvements. Six Flags has added new live entertainment shows, eateries, and upgrades to other popular roller coasters, including the Batman and Mr. Freeze rides. Unique to Six Flags Over Texas, visitors can explore and sample the flavors of each of the six countries that have planted their flag over the Lone Star State, including Spain, Mexico, France, and the good ol' US of A.

While admission tickets can be bought at the entrance, Six Flags Over Texas advertises up to $50 discounts for purchasing tickets on its website. If you plan to also visit other Six Flags or Schlitterbahn parks in Texas or Oklahoma, including Schlitterbahn Galveston, one of the coolest indoor parks in the country, consider purchasing a Gold Pass.

Six Flags Over Texas is smack dab in the middle of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex off Interstate 30. If you're flying into the area, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is one of the best-connected airports in the country and is less than 15 minutes away from Six Flags. Theme park enthusiasts should note that Tormenta Rampaging Run isn't the only new theme park attraction in the DFW area. On July 1, Universal Kids Resort, another major family-friendly theme park, opened north of Dallas in Frisco.
