Nashville
Nashville, capital of Tennessee, is situated almost in the centre of the state on the Cumberland River. With its 16 universities and colleges and its reproduction of the Parthenon, it is known as the "Athens of the South". Founded in 1779, Nashville is one of the most important
banking and insurance centers in the southern United States, but it is perhaps better known as the capital of country music, which is heard nationwide in the Grand Ole Opry, a long-running radio programme, as well as in countless bars in the city (many of them no more than tourist traps).
