Bartlett - Mount Washington Attractions
The easiest way to reach the top of Mount Washington is on the steep cog railway that was opened in 1869. By contrast, the 6 1/4 mile long Mount Washington Auto Road is by no means straightforward. The highest peak in the White Mountains is notorious for its rough and stormy weather: in 1934 the record wind speed of 240 mi. an hour was recorded here.
Sherman Adams Summit Building
Located at the top of Mount Washington, the Sherman Adams Summit Building contains the Mount Washington Summit Museum, with exhibits on weather and local flora and fauna. The building is dedicated to Sherman Adams, one of New Hampshire's former governors.
The building is accessible by walking trail, the Mount Washington Auto Road and the Cog Railway.
