Louisiana - Plantation Country

Between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, both sides of the Mississippi are lined with magnificent pre-war estates, the most beautiful of which are Destrehan, San Francisco, Oak Alley, Nottoway, Myrtles Plantation, Greenwood and Oakley, on which the painter John James Audubon (1785-1851) lived. Here he painted 32 of the finest pictures in his "Birds of America".
