California - Napa Valley Attractions

Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley are the best-known and largest vine-growing areas in California.

Viticulture

Viticulture, introduced into California about 1825 by Spanish Franciscans, was subsequently developed to its present high standard by growers from Germany, Alsace, France, Hungary and Italy.
Napa Valley Train
Since 1989 it has been possible to become acquainted with the Napa Valley district by traveling in authentic Pullman saloon coaches (George Mortimer Pullman built the first luxury saloon and sleeping-cars in Chicago in 1858). On the 36mi/58km round trip from Napa to St Helena gourmet dishes are served in the elegant dining-car.
