A subtropical climate; gorgeous, clear turquoise water; black- and gold-sand beaches; an active volcano; and a number of quaint towns built into the cliffs conspire to attract visitors by the planeload to the resorts here.

There are resorts for all budgets and styles of traveler in Tenerife, and they are spread out around the island. The largest concentration is on the south and west coasts. Popular areas include Costa Adeje and Playa de las Americas.

The Moorish Revival-styled Iberostar Grand El Mirador has a fantastic location right on Playa del Duque, which is considered one of Costa Adeje's most beautiful beaches.

This luxury resort is an adults-only property, making it perfect for a romantic getaway. This is especially true if you are sharing that getaway on social media–the pale pink property has striking, very photogenic architecture and ornate interior décor.

Rooms and suites are posh, with Moorish-inspired design and extras like butlers and linen menus. They also come with canopy beds, natural stone baths, and terraces. The best offer panoramic ocean views.

Amenities include a two-tiered, heated swimming pool (very Instagramable) facing the sea that is surrounded by natural rocks and plants. Sun-loungers and cabanas surround the pool.

Opened less than 5 years ago, the luxury Royal Hideaway Corales Suites is home to an adults-only property inside a bold, ultra-modern white building.

Located at the edge of La Caleta village on the Costa Adeje, Royal Hideaway Corales Beach is the adults-only section of Barcelo's Corales Resort and shares amenities with that property. It also has its own exclusive amenities. These include three restaurants, one of which with boasts two Michelin stars and is helmed by a pair of brothers.

This resort is a 5-minute walk from the beach, as well as a golf course and shopping center. It has accommodation in junior suites with open-plan bathrooms and free-standing tubs–definitely designed for couples rather than friends on holiday together. Beds are extra-large, and there are floor-to-ceiling windows with ocean views from all rooms.

Amenities at the larger parent resort include multiple swimming pools, a spa with a full range of treatments, a fitness center, and daily activities from yoga to tai chi and Pilates.

On Tenerife's southwest coast, RedLevel is the luxe, adults-only portion of the larger Gran Melia Palacio de Isora resort.

Booking this section of the resort means you'll have access to a swimming pool with concierge service, a beach club with sun lounger food service, and a fondue restaurant exclusive to RedLevel guests. There is also a dedicated check-in area and complimentary parking.

Set on one side of the massive resort, RedLevel rooms are stylish and comfortable. They come with Nespresso coffeemakers and free butler service. Many have private terraces with hot tubs. Others have bathrooms with Jacuzzi tubs.

For something more deluxe, book one of the handful of Ocean Front Garden Villas that come with private swimming pools and manicured gardens.

Bahia del Duque was the first luxury resort to open its doors in Tenerife, and today is still one of the island's best.

In a prime location on Playa del Duque beach, you can directly access the promenade by strolling through manicured, tiered gardens. It is also walking distance from high-end shops, and there are two golf courses within a 10-minute drive (tee times can be arranged by the hotel concierge).

The resort is designed to resemble a Spanish colonial village from the 1800s, with its buildings painted in pink and honey hues. It also offers signature Canary Islands warm hospitality.

Away from the main resort areas in Tenerife's south, Hotel Botanico is located in the north of the island. In a residential section of Puerto de la Cruise across from the Botanical Gardens, it is about a mile from a black-sand beach.

This five-star property has a classic elegance about it that dates back to its opening in the 1970s. Over the years, it has hosted everyone from Spanish nobility to Michael Jackson. There is also a Thai-style vibe about this place, both in décor and some architectural elements.

The gardens are lovely and beautifully maintained. Stroll the grounds, and you'll pass a large pond with black swans and koi. The spa is located in an Asian-themed garden and offers some of its treatments in a cave behind a waterfall.

There is also a putting green, tennis courts, a lagoon-like swimming pool, and a billiards room on-site. The restaurant features servers in white coats and the service is top-notch.

Set on the half-mile-long Fañabe Beach, the Iberostar Grand Salome has a prime location in the heart of the Costa Adeje scene.

This adults-only, 5-star property features just 33 ultra-luxe suites and is a hotel within the larger Iberostar resort.

It is set right on the famous promenade, and there are a number of attractions within strolling distance. Head to the posh Plaza Del Duque just behind the resort for luxury shopping. Boat trips depart from Puerto Colón, which is just a 15-minute walk down the promenade.

The resort has a swanky modern minimalist vibe with white-on-white décor, featuring lots of glass and arches. Inside, the suites have fun décor with abstract prints, and come with butler service. There is also a pool exclusively for guests, and an included a la carte breakfast.

Located on the fourth fairway of the championship Golf Las Americas course, Hotel Las Madrigueras is a good choice if you want to schedule some tee times into your Tenerife vacation. In fact, it is just one of three resorts on the island with its own golf course.

The property is geared towards couples and friends, and does not welcome children under age 16.

The resort is not on the beach, but one is within a 20-minute (uphill in one direction) walk. The grounds are lovely, with jacaranda and palm trees, fountains, and a large outdoor pool with plenty of sun-loungers.

In the ritziest section of the Costa Adeje, Vincci Seleccion La Plantacion del Sur is another luxury resort with an emphasis on personalized service.

It is situated on a hillside at the west end of the coast, giving it a very private air, and is far removed from the crowds around the promenade. It does run a free shuttle to the shops and restaurants at Plaza Del Duque.

The vibe is colonial-classic with a touch of Asian style that incorporates Feng Shui principles. Expect interiors with volcanic stone, polished wood, and cane furnishings and accents.

The rooms and suites come in a variety of configurations, but all are airy and comfortable with light color schemes. The junior suites have canopy beds. There are also villas with private rooftop hot tubs and gardens.

There are a few different dining options, including a buffet restaurant and one serving Canarian cuisine a la carte. Half-board rates are offered.

Other amenities include an impressive spa with three thermal circuits. There are also five swimming pools and everything from yoga to Pilates classes are offered. The gym has state-of-the art equipment.
