There's nothing better than a vacation that includes your pet. Whether you have a dog, a cat, or something more exotic, it's always more fun to bring them along to enjoy the adventure with you.

Orlando is a thriving city that began as a home base for Walt Disney World but has grown into an international destination with great food, culture, and entertainment beyond the theme parks. Of course the massive Walt Disney World and related parks, along with Universal Orlando still draw millions of visitors each year.

Many Orlando hotels do more than just allow pets, some roll out the red carpet. Dog amenities can range from snacks and treats at check-in to doggy meals on the room service menu. Even Walt Disney World has realized it's important to accommodate pet parents and has designated four of its resorts as dog-friendly.

Be sure to check with any resort or hotel in advance to confirm their specific policy, as some restrict certain sizes or breeds of dogs. Some resorts charge pet fees, and some require immunization records. Also, it's essential to book a pet-friendly room in advance, as only a limited number of rooms are designated pet-friendly.

Find the best place to stay with our list of the best pet-friendly hotels in Orlando.

Walt Disney World Resorts

There are four resorts at Walt Disney World that welcome dogs. There are no specific breed or size restrictions but a maximum of two dogs are allowed per guest room. Only specific floors or sections of those four resorts are dog-friendly, so guests with pet allergies or issues can also visit. The pet-friendly rooms connect with outdoor walkways and are close to green spaces for walking and bathroom trips.

At check-in, canine guests will get Pluto's Welcome Kit, with all kinds of doggy amenities. Dogs must be well-behaved, leashed whenever they're in public areas, and should be up-to-date on all vaccinations. Proof of this may be required at check-in. Dogs in crates may be brought onto the Minnie Van shuttles or Disney's Magical Express shuttle buses. The resorts partner with Best Friends Pet Care, which has a dog spa and kennel on the WDW property. They offer grooming and doggy daycare (and boarding).

1. Disney's Yacht Club Resort

One of the fancy hotels at Walt Disney World is also one of the most dog-friendly. Disney's luxurious Yacht Club Resort is styled after a huge, old-school New England yacht club. It sits on the shore of an equally huge lake, with many of the rooms and suites featuring beautiful views of the water.

The resort is next to Stormalong Bay, Disney's three-acre waterpark. The Yacht Club Resort shares many amenities with the neighboring Disney's Beach Club Resort.

As outlined above, dogs are welcome at the Yacht Club Resort, and there's a lot of green space around it for them to walk and play.

What better vacation could there be than spending time on the porch in a rocking chair at your very own log cabin in the woods? How about doing it with your faithful dog at your feet? The Cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort allow dogs, per Walt Disney World's pet policy.

The rustic, yet nicely equipped log cabins are inside the 750-acre pine and cypress forest that houses the resort. You share the forest with deer, ducks, rabbits, and other wildlife, and you can explore it, with your dog, via the scenic woodland trails. There's also a sandy beach and several swimming pools.

Dogs are only allowed in the cabins, not in pop-up trailers or tents.
