There are plenty of Northern California vacation spots, including major tourist attractions like San Francisco or Yosemite National Park. Of course, if you're taking your kids along and want to keep them entertained, that narrows down your options a bit. However, there is one NorCal city that you may not have thought of that is growing in popularity: Manteca. According to World Population Review, Manteca is one of the fastest-growing cities in California in 2026, with an annual population growth of 2.67% and an increase in residents from 84,055 in 2020 to 99,274 in 2026. Manteca is around 18 miles from Modesto, a city with bike trails, museums, and lots of local art, so if you're visiting the area, it's worth making some time to head over for a family adventure.

There are all sorts of exciting, kid-friendly attractions in this suburban city, from an indoor water park to a trampoline park to the colorful murals all over town. In fact, one of the murals proclaims Manteca's nickname, "Family City." You'll also find the Big League Dreams sports park, which has stadium seating; replicas of major league fields that include Fenway Park, Angel Stadium, Yankee Stadium, Wrigley Field, and more; and activities like flag football, baseball, fastpitch, and indoor soccer for kids. There are also on-site restaurants, batting cages, and a kids' play area, so if your little ones are into sports, you have fun built right in. The city also hosts festivals and events like the Manteca Pumpkin Fair and Manteca Christmas in the Park, so check the calendar before your visit.

Visit Manteca's indoor water park

No matter what time of year you visit, your kids can get in some great play time in the water. Manteca is home to Great Wolf Lodge, an indoor water park, and you can stay right on the property in family suites, kid-focused suites, themed Wolf Den Suites (which have a bunk bed and fun painted walls), and premium suites. If you do stay at Great Wolf Lodge, the 95,000-square-foot water park is included in the price, or you can just do a day trip. There are all sorts of attractions at this park, including Fort Mackenzie, a treehouse-style fort surrounded by slides. It's four stories high with lots of water toys and a huge bucket full of water you can either seek out or avoid when the bell rings. Alongside the fort are the Totem Towers, a series of body slides that you can do along with your kids.

Little ones can hit Club Paw Splash Pad, with kiddie slides, water cannons, and small jet skis. The pool only goes up to 18 inches deep to keep everyone safe. The entire family can get in on the fun on the Sequoia Splash raft ride, which holds up to five people at a time. Go down a water pipe into a spinning bowl before entering the final plunge. The water park also features a pool basketball court, a plunge slide, floating lily pads, a lazy river, and other amenities. Additionally, there are attractions beyond the water areas. You'll find a bowling alley, treasure at Oliver's Mining Co., mini golf, an arcade, a colorful maze to explore, and quests throughout the lodge. Note that these outside activities are paid add-ons.

Family-friendly fun and more in Manteca

Another great family experience in Manteca is the Altitude Trampoline Park. Besides wall-to-wall trampolines, there are attractions like a bouncy basketball court, an obstacle course, a fitness and gaming system, a "Battle Beam" where you use soft bolsters to bounce your friends into a foam pit, and a "Fidget Ladder" balance competition. There are even themed nights like Glo in the Park, where everything is lit up with glowing lights on weekend nights.

If you're looking for something for the adults in your group, you can stop by the Delicato Wine Shop. This family-owned winery has been in the area for over a century. You can simply walk in for a wine tasting between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. for just $10 per person (at the time of this writing). If beer is more your speed, you can hit Brethren Brewing Company's taproom, which also happens to be kid- and dog-friendly. It has a number of beers on tap, as well as mixed drinks and snacks. There is also a rotating daily food menu if you're looking for something more substantial.

If you're heading to Manteca, the closest major airports are Oakland International Airport (OAK) and Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC), around 60 and 65 miles away, respectively. Sacramento International Airport (SMF) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) in "America's coziest city" are less than 80 miles away as well. Finally, if you're looking to explore the whole area, you may want to try the Gold Runner train, one of the best California Amtrak routes in the area.
