Between Washington DC And Richmond Is Virginia's Largest Indoor Waterpark Opening In 2026
A massive world of waterslides, swimming pools, and themed zones is coming to Virginia this year. Kalahari Resorts & Conventions is slated to welcome its first guests in Spotsylvania County this fall. When it opens, the resort will be home to the largest indoor waterpark in the state, spanning over 175,000 square feet.
Virginia is home to many must-see destinations for first-time visitors, and the new resort will likely be one of them. The park is the fifth location to open in the United States under the Kalahari Resorts & Conventions flag, an African-inspired, family-owned chain. Kalahari Spotslyvania is now accepting reservations, and according to its website, the opening date is set for November 13, 2026.
The indoor waterpark will offer more than 40 different slides across its massive landscape, as well as a surf simulator, a lazy river, a basketball pool, and a swim-up bar that caters to a 21-and-older crowd. Visitors can race side by side on the Savannah Speedway, soar down the Kalahari Curl, and defy gravity on the Dawn Breaker's weightless boomerang wall. A dedicated area called Coral Cove allows younger guests to explore and play at their own pace in a zero-depth entry pool. It's safe to say it will earn a spot among the coolest indoor waterparks in the U.S. The resort will feature more than 900 guest rooms, and daily admission for all guests is included with every stay.
Even more attractions await at Kalahari Spotsylvania
While the indoor waterpark will be open throughout the year, Kalahari Spotsylvania will also feature an outdoor waterpark in the warmer months. The outdoor park will welcome guests on Memorial Day weekend 2027, and will remain open until Labor Day weekend, weather permitting. The expansive area will feature 10 acres of attractions for visitors of all ages. For the kids, Bugs Burrow will offer all kinds of water-themed fun surrounded by larger-than-life insects. An outdoor swim-up bar will give the grown-ups a chance to socialize and relax in a tropical atmosphere. Other features of the outdoor waterpark include a basketball pool and zero-depth entry swimming area with in-water loungers.
As if two waterparks weren't enough, the resort will also have a dedicated fun zone on dry land. Dubbed Tom Foolerys Adventure Park, this 90,000-square-foot space will feature climbing walls, an indoor zip line, laser tag, bowling, and a section with over 250 arcade games. The resort is set to have 13 restaurants and bars, as well as several shops, including a Build-A-Bear workshop.
Kalahari Spotsylvania is located about 45 miles north of Richmond, Virginia, and 71 miles southwest of Washington, D.C. For those flying in, the resort is about an hour from Richmond International Airport (RIC) by car, and about 90 minutes from Dulles International Airport (IAD) in Washington D.C., although traffic could make the trip longer.
