California's Most Overrated Tourist Attraction Was Ranked The Worst In The World

Los Angeles and its surrounding cities like Santa Monica, West Hollywood, and Beverly Hills evoke luxury and the glamor of Hollywood. Many of the tourist attractions in this part of California relate to the entertainment industry. However, not all of these attractions live up to the high expectations that come with their Hollywood associations. This includes the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a place that many would consider one of the top USA tourist attractions first-time visitors shouldn't skip.

An ever-expanding list of entertainment industry A-listers are featured on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a 1.3-mile stretch of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street in central Los Angeles. It was first established in the early 1960s and now features over 2,700 stars. Earning a star on the Walk of Fame means you've made your mark in Hollywood. But in November 2025, luggage storage company Stasher released a ranking of the world's worst tourist attractions in the world, and the Hollywood Walk of Fame ended up at the top of the list. The ranking assessed various categories such as Google reviews, ease of access, and safety at each world-famous destination. As for the Walk of Fame, it seems like the air of prestige only exists when a new star is unveiled, accompanied by some flashing cameras and sentimental speeches. It is also home to the Dolby Theatre, where famous award ceremonies like the Oscars take place. Yet between these star-studded occasions, visitors don't always feel so glamorous.

Out of the 101 global tourist attractions examined in the report, the Hollywood Walk of Fame had the lowest rating on Google, according to Stasher. Common criticisms include dime-a-dozen souvenir shops, uncleanliness, and crowds. The plethora of salespeople can weigh down your Walk of Fame experience, too, as reviewer Jan Kotze pointed out. "Street vendors take up large portions of the sidewalk in certain areas and some can also be pushy, sometimes handing you items and then insisting on a donation, which can become uncomfortable when you try to decline or avoid them all together," she explained. Another reviewer added, "The area is crowded, chaotic, and doesn't feel safe or clean. The sidewalks are uneven, and there's constant noise, litter, and an overall lack of upkeep." Some more generous reviewers consider the Hollywood Walk of Fame to be among the country's iconic attractions worth visiting at least once, but feel that once is enough.

Stasher also factored in how easy or difficult each tourist destination is to reach when conducting its study. Unfortunately, Los Angeles is not known for its exceptional public transportation. Sometimes, traveling just a few miles involves switching buses more than once. Whether you're on a bus or driving yourself, going near a place as popular as the Hollywood Walk of Fame means you'll be especially steeped in LA's infamous traffic.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame's low safety rating is another reason why Stasher ranked it as the worst tourist attraction on its list. Of course, it is difficult for a metropolis as busy as Los Angeles to exist without crime, but shooting incidents near the Walk of Fame have left even locals feeling rattled. Among those concerned was Gregg Donovan, known as the "Ambassador of Hollywood." Donovan told Fox 11 that there is not always enough police presence along the Walk of Fame and that he had personally been assaulted multiple times.

All is not lost along the Hollywood Walk of Fame, however. Plenty of tourists view this California tourist hot spot as an enjoyable way to celebrate past and present greats of the entertainment industry. The concrete stars themselves show off Hollywood history, but Hollywood Boulevard is also home to the TCL Chinese Theater, Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, and the Egyptian Theater. All are beautiful examples of Old Hollywood glamor still well intact. Perhaps focusing on these historical landmarks is key to enjoying this part of LA.
