Zwettl Cistercian Abbey
3km/2mi to the northeast of Zwettl, on a bend of the River Kamp, proudly stands Zwettl Abbey, a Cistercian monastery founded in 1138, with some buildings dating back to the Romanesque period. The church has a handsome Romanesque tower, and the choir is a masterpiece of Late Gothic architecture. Conducted tours are arranged for a minimum of 10 people (weekdays at 10 and 11 a.m. and 2, 3 and 4 p.m.; Suns. at 11 a.m. excluding the church, and also at 2, 3 and 4 p.m.). Groups can be catered for by prior arrangement.
