Tips
Expensively renovated in the 1980s, the Opernhaus in Zurich is an ornate building with outstanding acoustics that attracts up and coming singers. It seats just 1,238 which means that tickets are difficult to get for new productions or performances by big name singers. The season runs from September to June and tickets can be ordered by mail for nonsubscription performances. A schedule is available by writing to Opernhaus Zurich, Billetkasse, Falkenstrasse 1, 8008 Zurich, Switzerland. Since ballet is also performed here, opera lovers are best to check out the schedule. Tickets go on sale seven days before the performance at the box office which is open Monday through Saturday from 10am-6:30 p.m. and one hour before the curtain goes up.
