Spring Festival
This annual festival is over 600 years old and is based on the ancient tradition of "chasing away Old Man Winter." The modern festival is celebrated on the Sunday before the third Monday in April with a children's parade and a large snowman figure symbolizing winter.
The next day, the 25 guilds of Zurich hold their joint parade and then gather by the lake for a huge bonfire to pronounce the end of winter. The highlight of the festival - a giant fireworks display follows, accompanied by dancing and singing in the streets.
