Zoutleeuw - Sint-Leonduskerk Tabernacle

The left transept houses the finest artistic object of the church, the tabernacle created between 1550 and 1552 by Cornelis Floris de Vriendt out of Avesnes stone.
The tabernacle is 18m/59ft high and on seven levels more than 200 figures, impressive in their authenticity, represent Old Testament scenes, Paradise, the Last Supper and other scenes of the New Testament, as well as saints, elders of the church and the Virgin Mary. Near the tabernacle are buried its creator, Marten van Wilre, and his wife Maria Pijlepeerts. The triptych opposite showing the baptism of Christ was created by Frans Floris de Vriendt, the brother of Cornelis.
