Zillertal - Zillertalstrasse
The Zillertal is one of the most popular valleys in the Tirol, with a narrow gauge railroad connection and mountain railroads up to the surrounding mountains. The road up the Zillertal turns southward off the main road just to the west of Strass (522m/1,713ft; pop. 700), where the Ziller flows into the Inn.

Fugen, Austria
Further up the Zillertal from Schlitters, Fügen (544m/1785ft; pop. 2,300) is a health resort and winter sports base. Note the 15th C. castle with Baroque extensions (c. 1700), and the Gothic parish church (1497), with 14th C. wall paintings, reliefs and statues.
Hochfügen
From Fügen a cabin cableway ascends the Spieljoch (1,865m/6,119ft; ski lifts); a mountain road (12km/7.5mi) leads up to Hochfügen (1,475m/4,839ft), a good skiing area with numerous lifts, as well as toboggan runs and marked cross country ski runs.
Schlitters, Austria
The next village up the Zillertal from Strass is the summer resort of Schlitters (540m/1,772ft; pop. 800). On the other bank of the Ziller, to the northwest, lies Bruck, with its fine parish church of 1337 (enlarged in the 17th C.).
