Hoher Riffler

In the Zillertal Alps, the Hintertuxer Gletscherbahn (cableway) and a chairlift ascend from the Galtalpe (1,540m/5,053ft) to the Sonnenbergalm (2,080m/6,824ft) or via the Spannagel-Haus (2,528m/8,294ft) to the Gefrorene Wand (upper station 3,060m/10,040ft; summer skiing also). From the Spannagel-Haus the Hoher Riffler (3,228m/10,591ft) can be climbed. A cross-country route affording extensive views winds down to the Friesenberg-Haus (2,498m/8,196ft), on the Friesenbergsee, and the Neue Dominikus-Hütte (1,810m/5,939ft), on the Schlegeis reservoir. From the Kraxentrager (2,999m/9,840ft), the most westerly of the major peaks in the Tuxer Kamm, there is a view of the somber little Brennersee far below, near the Brenner pass.
