Zihuatanejo

The fishing port of Zihuatanejo offers hardly anything of interest, although recently a pedestrian zone with shops and restaurants has been opened. The main beaches on the road from the airport to Ixtapa are:

Playa de las Gatas, which can only be reached by boat or over a stony path, has a stone wall, not far from the shore, which according to legend goes back to the Tarascan king Tangáxoan II, who desired to bathe here completely undisturbed; Playa de la Ropa; Playa de la Madera; Playa del Malecón and the beach between Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa, Playa de Majahua.
