The town of Yuma (pop. 54,923) lies in the extreme southwest of Arizona, in a region of great heat which has been made fertile by irrigation. It preserves a number of buildings, including an adobe-built prison and the U.S. Army Quartermaster Depot, which recall its troubled history.
