Yarmouth Castle
Attractions in Yarmouth include the ruins of a fortress (1538-1547) with a wedge-shaped bastion dating from the reign of Henry VIII, a small town hall, rebuilt in 1763, and St James' Parish Church, with a memorial chapel to Sir Robert Holmes (d. 1692). In 1664 Holmes seized the Dutch possessions in North America, captured New York and became Governor of the Isle of Wight.
