The Madeline Island Museum began in 1955 by Leo and Bella Capser of St. Paul. Island residents contributed including an extensive collection of artifacts from resident and amateur archeologist Al Galazen. The site consists of portions of the American Fur Company building, an old barn, the former La Pointe town jail, and the Old Sailor's Home.
