Winnipeg Square is unique in that the entire mall is build below ground. This is ideal in Winnipeg's cold and snowy winters. The mall contains 50 shops including a wide variety of services, retail stores, and restaurants. Winnipeg Square is primarily targeted to the downtown office worker crowd. The mall is nearly deserted on the weekends.

Winnipeg Square is linked to most downtown hotels, entertainment venues, office buildings, and other retail establishments through underground walkways. If you find yourself at the world famous Portage and Main intersection, the stairs beside you lead down into Winnipeg
