Winnipeg - Chinatown

Winnipeg has had a Chinese population for about 100 years, the earliest arrivals having migrated to Canada to work on the trans-continental railroad. Consequently Winnipeg has a well developed Chinatown.

The at first small and rather isolated Chinese community only really started to expand in the 1920s. From then on more and more businesses of every conceivable sort started to appear, ranging from exotic spice shops and porcelain and silk emporia to laundries and restaurants (some of which count among the city's best).

Although a big tourist attraction, Winnipeg's Chinatown still manages to preserve its distinctive oriental atmosphere.
