Fort Buford State Historic Site

Near Williston in the west of the North Dakota, on the border with Montana, is Fort Buford, where Sitting Bull gave himself up in 1881 after returning to the United States from Canada.

Fort Buford State Historic Site has been restored and contains three of the original buildings. There is an onsite museum and nearby is the fort cemetery.

The site has all the regular facilities for tourists including picnic sites.
