Wickenburg - Hassayampa River

The Hassayampa River in Wickenburg gets its name from an Apache word meaning "river which runs upside down", because its waters flow beneath the sandy surface.

The Hassayampa River Preserve provides habitat to diverse wildlife including 280 species of birds that live, nest or migrate in the area. Other wildlife that can be found include mule deer, javelina, raccoon, bobcat, ring-tailed cat, mountain lion and many species of lizard.
