Wilderness National Park

Wilderness National Park (area 10,000ha/25,000ac) lies on both sides of N 2, extending from the mouth of the Trouw River in the west to Sedgefield in the east. On the north it is bounded by the Outeniqua Mountains, and on the south reaches down at some points to the Indian Ocean. The area is often known simply as the Lakes, for along this stretch of coast there are a number of lakes, swamps and estuaries linked with one another. The juxtaposition and mingling of salt and fresh water produce a very varied flora and fauna, and the National Park is a paradise for water birds. It contains accommodation for visitors, and there are facilities for water sports in and on the lakes.
