Wheeling was the site of the last battle of the American Revolution in 1782. Fort Henry was attacked by a force of 40 British soldiers and 260 Indians. The fort is marked by a memorial stone. The Wheeling Suspension Bridge, built in 1849, is considered to be one of the world's largest.
