Description
California's oldest Chinese temple (1874) bears witness to their former presence. It is still used on occasions today. All the objects to be found in this temple, such as valuable carpets and scrolls, were imported from China. The temple stands in the center of the little town, in Joss House State Historic Park, where an exhibition will tell you all about the life of the Chinese and their contribution to California's development.

The Joss House State Historic Park in Weaverville is the site of a Taoist temple of worship. The Chinese temple was constructed in 1850 and suffered extensive damage in a 1873 fire. Rebuilt the next year it is the oldest Chinese temple in California.
