The town of Chehalis, located directly south of Olympia, calls itself the Rose City. The city has an accredited public rose garden. Chehalis is also known for its well preserved historic districts, that can be pleasant areas for walking.
The Chehalis-Centralia Railroad offers train tours through the Chehalis Valley on a 1920's steam train. The John R Jackson House State Historic Site, more commonly referred to as just Jackson House, or Jackson Court House, dates to the mid 19th Century. John Robinson Jackson was a prominent figure in the town's early history and his house was, at one time, used as the courthouse.
The Lewis County Historical Museum in Chehalis is housed in the old railway depot, built in 1912. The museum focuses on the history of Lewis County, including pioneer life, the railroad, Native Americans, and industry.
