Werrikimbe National Park, on the eastern edge of the New England Plateau, was established in 1976 and extended in 1982. The plateau is deeply indented by the valleys of the Hastings River and its tributaries. It is an impressive wilderness area, with waterfalls, gorges and expanses of rain forest.
